After breakfast, embark on a scenic drive along the Prithvi Highway, heading west from Kathmandu. The route offers a stunning glimpse into rural Nepal, passing traditional villages, green hills, and river valleys. After reaching Besisahar, the gateway to the Annapurna region, the road becomes more rugged as it follows the Marsyangdi River through Khudi, Bulbule, and Ngadi. Finally, you’ll arrive at Syange, a peaceful village surrounded by lush hills—your first overnight stop on the trail organized by Mountain Eco Treks.
Your trekking journey begins today. The trail climbs gradually through subtropical forests and terraced fields, passing charming villages like Jagat and Chamje. The landscape becomes more dramatic as you enter Manang district, reaching Tal village, located on a serene riverbank. A few more hours of trekking lead you to Dharapani, where the Annapurna Circuit and Manaslu routes intersect. Overnight stay in a cozy teahouse arranged by Mountain Eco Treks.
The trail from Dharapani follows the Marsyangdi River, gradually ascending through pine and rhododendron forests. You’ll pass through the villages of Bagarchhap, Danque, and Timang, each offering a glimpse of mountain life and Tibetan Buddhist culture. The views of Manaslu and Lamjung Himal are stunning along this section. Continuing through Koto, you finally reach Chame, the administrative headquarters of Manang district, where you’ll spend the night.
Leaving Chame, the trail ascends through pine forests with dramatic views of snow-capped peaks. The path passes through Bratang village before climbing to Dhukur Pokhari, a scenic spot for lunch offering magnificent views of Pisang Peak and Chulu East. Today’s trek takes you through a landscape of changing vegetation and expanding mountain views. You can take the upper route via Ghyaru and Ngawal, offering exceptional panoramas of Annapurna II, III, Gangapurna, and Tilicho Peak. After breakfast, leave the main Annapurna trail and head toward Khangsar village. The path offers stunning views of the Annapurna range and Tilicho Peak. The landscape becomes increasingly barren, with rocky hills and sparse vegetation. Khangsar is a small traditional settlement that retains a quiet charm, where you can observe local lifestyles untouched by modernization.
Today is one of the highlights of your trek. You will hike steadily uphill through rugged terrain to reach Tilicho Lake, one of the highest lakes in the world. The lake’s crystal-clear waters, framed by snow-covered mountains, create an unforgettable sight. Tilicho Lake holds spiritual significance for both Hindus and Buddhists. After spending time soaking in the serenity, you’ll descend back to Tilicho Base Camp for the night.
The return trek to Shri Kharka is relaxed and scenic. The trail winds through rocky hillsides with beautiful views of the Manang Valley below. This quiet section of the route offers a great opportunity to appreciate the vastness of the Annapurna region.
Today’s trail gradually rejoins the main Annapurna Circuit route. The walk to Yak Kharka is gentle but rewarding, as you pass through alpine meadows dotted with grazing yaks and encounter herders tending their animals. The region offers breathtaking views of Gangapurna, Annapurna III, and Chulu peaks. Overnight stay at a comfortable lodge arranged by Mountain Eco Treks.
The trail climbs steadily along a narrow path, crossing a suspension bridge to reach Thorang Phedi. From here, it’s a challenging but short climb to Thorang High Camp. As you approach, the air becomes thinner, and the scenery more dramatic, with towering peaks all around. Early rest is essential to prepare for the next day’s crossing of Thorong-La Pass.
This is the most rewarding day of the trek. Starting before sunrise, you’ll make the steady ascent to Thorong-La Pass, the highest point of the Annapurna Circuit. The top of the pass, adorned with colorful prayer flags, offers breathtaking panoramic views of the Dhaulagiri and Annapurna ranges. After celebrating your achievement, begin the long descent to Muktinath, one of the holiest pilgrimage sites in Nepal, revered by both Hindus and Buddhists.
The descent continues through the arid landscapes of Mustang, following the Kali Gandaki River valley. The trail passes through the villages of Jharkot and Kagbeni, offering glimpses of the Upper Mustang region’s unique geography. Arriving in Jomsom, the headquarters of Mustang district, you can enjoy a relaxing evening exploring its charming streets and tasting local Thakali cuisine.Drive option also available from muktinath to Jomsom

Anapurna Circuit in winter (with Ram)
9th January, 2019
I have been wanting to do the Annapurna Circuit in winter even if it is completely off season. Two friends of mine joined me on this quest and together with Ram, our Guide, we’ve had an amazing experience and saw the Annapurnas probably at the best time of year.
I’ve got to know ram through another friend of mine who highly highly recommended him to me and I didn’t regret this one bit. We’ve planned the trip beforehand (even though we changed some parts spontaneously during the trek) and Ram has helped a lot.
Doing the Annapurna Circuit in winter was the best idea because it was so much more real and authentic. Very few other trekkers have been around at that time, so you really could get a feeling for this vastness of the landscape and those huge mountains. Only downside was the cold. But this you could prepare for and live with.
If you are considering a trek in Nepal - Annapurna Circuit or something different - do consider it doing with Ram. He is a very very good company, totally friendly and funny guy and he will help you have a trip of a lifetime.
Thank you Ram.

Great travel companion
9th January, 2019
I’ve been with Ram on the Annapurna circuit over Christmas time this year.
We were a group of friends, quite outdoorsy but not too sure about the Himalayan winter, so we decided to go with a guide. In the end this turned out as a very value-adding idea of doing the trek. Ram is a really fun guy with a tremendous experience in hiking and took care of all organizational stuff so we could focus on enjoying the trek, the nature and simply having a good time.
Of course, going with a guide makes the whole trek less adventurous, but also more enjoyable in the end.
If you decide taking a guide, Ram is a great companion that made our journey a really fun time with a lot of insights into Nepal we wouldn’t have gotten without him.
Thank you Ram!

My Himalayan Adventures
6th October, 2017
I first met Dev in 2000 when he was my guide on the Annapurna circuit and subsequently for trekking in the Langtang and Helambu region also. Right from the beginning I found him to be an excellent and funny person to enjoy an adventure with and it was a privilege to spend such a memorable time in his company.
In 2004 I returned to Nepal for trekking to Gokyo in the Everest region. Again, I found Dev to be an excellent host and true professional at all times. During both trips, Dev and his family invited me into their home and I will not forget their kindness and hospitality.
I have no hesitation in recommending Dev and trekking in Nepal to the highest possible degree for anyone who wants to experience great times in a magical place and in the best possible company.
