Trek Overview

The Mardi Himal Trek is one of the best short treks in the Annapurna region, offering an off-the-beaten-path experience with breathtaking views of Machhapuchhare (Fishtail), Annapurna, and Dhaulagiri ranges. Located within the vast Annapurna Himalayas of central Nepal, this trail is a hidden gem where only a few trekkers venture, making it perfect for those seeking peace, natural beauty, and authentic adventure away from the crowded routes.
Organized by Mountain Eco Treks, the Mardi Himal Trek is a week-long journey ideal for trekkers of all ages and fitness levels. Unlike longer routes such as the Poon Hill Annapurna Base Camp Trek or the Annapurna Circuit Short Trek, Mardi Himal offers a shorter yet equally rewarding adventure. The trail gradually ascends through rhododendron, birch, and pine forests—especially stunning in spring when the hills bloom with vibrant flowers, including Nepal’s national flower, the rhododendron.
This trek begins from the scenic lakeside city of Pokhara, taking you into pristine wilderness and along ridges with dramatic mountain panoramas. Reaching Mardi Himal High Camp and Base Camp (4,500 m) provides mesmerizing close-up views of Mt. Fishtail (Machhapuchhare), one of Nepal’s most iconic peaks. The journey also showcases spectacular green valleys, alpine meadows, and serene landscapes rarely touched by mass tourism.
After exploring the hidden paradise of Mardi Himal, the descent follows peaceful forested trails toward Kalimati, from where a short drive brings you back to Pokhara. This short trek is a fantastic choice for those with limited time but who still want an authentic Himalayan experience. For travelers considering more trekking adventures, Mountain Eco Treks also offers the Poon Hill Ghorepani Short Trek and the classic Annapurna Base Camp Trek for a more extended Himalayan journey.
With Mountain Eco Treks, the Mardi Himal Trek becomes not just a hike, but a truly memorable experience, combining comfort, expert guidance, and the thrill of exploring one of Nepal’s most scenic hidden trails.

Complete Mardi Himal Trek Guide with Mountain Eco Treks

Mardi Himal Trek Permits – Essential Requirements for Trekkers:

Before setting off on the Mardi Himal Trek, every trekker must obtain two essential permits: the Annapurna Conservation Area Permit (ACAP). These permits are compulsory for all foreign visitors and help preserve the fragile Himalayan ecosystem while ensuring trekking safety. Mountain Eco Treks takes care of the entire permit process for our clients in Kathmandu or Pokhara, so you don’t need to worry about paperwork. Carrying these permits at all times is important, as there are several checkpoints along the trail where they will be verified.

Mardi Himal Trek Difficulty Level – Is It Suitable for Beginners?

The Mardi Himal Trek is classified as a moderate trekking adventure in the Annapurna region. The trail includes forested paths, stone stairways, steep ascents, and high ridges, but it does not involve technical climbing. Trekkers with a reasonable level of fitness can complete the journey, even without previous Himalayan trekking experience. Mountain Eco Treks designs carefully paced itineraries that allow for gradual acclimatization and enough rest. With the guidance of our experienced trekking leaders, both first-time trekkers and seasoned hikers can fully enjoy the beauty of Mardi Himal.

Best Season for the Mardi Himal Trek When to Experience the Himalayas at Their Finest

Timing plays a big role in the success of your trek. The best time for the Mardi Himal Trek is during spring (March to May) and autumn (September to November). These seasons offer clear skies, mild temperatures, and breathtaking views of Annapurna, Machhapuchhre (Fishtail), and Hiunchuli. Spring also brings colorful rhododendron blooms, adding charm to the forested sections of the trail. Although winter offers solitude, the cold temperatures at high camps can be challenging. The summer monsoon season is less favorable due to heavy rainfall and leeches. Mountain Eco Treks recommends spring and autumn for the safest, most enjoyable experience.

Great mardi himal treat with mountain eco trek

4th November, 2022

Recently returned home, in November 2022 me and other two friend, we trekked Mardi Himal including a visit to Chitwan with Mr, Ram, which took 09 days.
Mountain Eco Trek and especially Ram our guide, Porter Deepak did a great job! They are very friendly, helpful people with a lot of knowledge. Mountain Eco Trek made all the paperwork very easy, our guide Ram was able to answer our questions in advance during the trip, and he explained a lot about Nepali culture and traditions. On the way to Kalimati during the trek I got a knee problem, but our porter Deepak helped me a lot. He looked after me and gave me some tips and advice on how to move my legs.
We had a great time from start to finish, were very well organized, and had very good food during the trek, the weather was very clear and beautiful while we were there, and we saw many beautiful views of the Himalayas, especially the Fishtail Himalayas and Annapurna. South, Gangapurna and Himchuli Himal are amazing.
If anyone is looking for a holiday in Nepal I can highly recommend Mountain Eco Trek with Mardi Himal Trek to make your holiday enjoyable and memorable.
Looking forward to coming back with another adventure
Thank you, best wishes

Mardi Himal Trek with Ram

22nd November, 2022

My wife and I did the Mardi Himal Trek and it was amazing! The mountains (Annapurna South, Machapuchare (Fish Tail), and Mardi) were stunning from the viewpoint, and the sunrise at High Camp was worth every bit of the climb. We extended out trip to Chitwan National Park and were able to see Rhinos in the wild which was amazing!

This was our second trek with Ram as our guide and we can't say enough good things about him and his company! He is very attentive to details and easily adjusted our schedule based on how much ground we could cover each day on the trail.

We are already talking about when we can get back to Nepal and do it all again!

Mardi Himal Trek

9th November, 2022

My husband and I did a private Mardi Himal Trek at the beginning of November. I would highly recommend this trek to anyone. While there are a lot of stairs on the route, the views of Annapurna South, Fishtail, and Mardi were breathtaking and absolutely worth the effort. The teahouses were basic but comfortable for the most part. The dining rooms are heated, but the bedrooms are not (just something to be aware of if you are going in the late fall).
Of course, everyone knows the people you go with are important, too. This was our second time having Ram as a trekking guide (1st time was on the Poon Hill trek some years ago). There's a reason we chose to stick with him again. He's organized, has a good sense of humor, anticipated our needs/wants before we said them, and managed itinerary changes with ease. While Dapak, our porter, spoke limited English, he attempted to engage with us during the evenings at the teahouses, helped us over rough terrain in a few spots, and brought a positive attitude to the trek.
Overall, the trek was amazing and if there weren't so many other incredible places to see in Nepal, I would do this trek again.

Altitude on the Mardi Himal Trek – Staying Safe in the High Himalayas

The Mardi Himal Trek reaches elevations of around 4,500 meters at Mardi Himal Base Camp, which makes altitude sickness a possible concern. Trekkers may experience mild symptoms such as headaches, dizziness, or fatigue as they gain elevation. Mountain Eco Treks emphasizes a gradual ascent, proper acclimatization, and hydration throughout the trek. Our guides are trained to recognize and respond to altitude issues, ensuring your safety on the trail. By walking at a steady pace and listening to your body, you can enjoy the trek’s high-altitude scenery without major problems.
