The Gokyo Lake Trek is one of the most spectacular trekking experiences in Nepal, offering an unforgettable blend of high-altitude adventure, pristine natural landscapes, and rich Sherpa culture. Organized by Mountain Eco Treks, this 12-day journey provides a serene alternative to the crowded Everest Base Camp Trek- 14 days , allowing trekkers to explore less-frequented trails while soaking in panoramic views of the world’s tallest peaks, including Mount Everest (8,848 m), Lhotse, Makalu, and Cho Oyu—the 6th highest mountain on the Nepal-Tibet border.
Spanning the remote Khumbu region, the trek passes through valleys historically grazed by yaks and home to diverse Himalayan wildlife. The journey’s highlight is the Gokyo Valley, renowned for its stunning emerald glacial lakes surrounded by towering snow-capped peaks. The ascent to Gokyo Ri (5,357 m / 17,578 ft) rewards trekkers with an extraordinary 360-degree view of the Himalayas, including Everest, Lhotse, Nuptse, Cho Oyu, and the iconic Ama Dablam (6,812 m / 22,480 ft).
Along the trek.
The journey begins with a scenic flight to Lukla, the gateway to the Everest region, where trekkers meet the professional guides from Mountain Eco Treks. From Lukla, the trail winds through charming Sherpa villages and terraced farmland, reaching Namche Bazaar, the bustling cultural heart of the Khumbu region. After a rest day for acclimatization, the trek continues through Dole and Machhermo before arriving at the serene Gokyo Lakes, where turquoise waters mirror the surrounding peaks.
On the return, trekkers descend via Na Village, passing through Phortse and Manju, before reaching Lukla for a scenic flight back to Kathmandu, completing this once-in-a-lifetime Himalayan experience.
For those seeking a faster or unique return, the Everest Base Camp Trek With Helicopter Return offers an exciting alternative. With Mountain Eco Treks, the Gokyo Lake Trek is more than a trek; it is a complete Himalayan adventure. Combining awe-inspiring mountain vistas, tranquil alpine lakes, authentic Sherpa culture, and immersive trekking experiences, this trek is ideal for both first-time adventurers and seasoned trekkers. For trekkers with limited time or those seeking a once-in-a-lifetime experience, Mountain Eco Treks offers the Helicopter Return Instead of retracing your steps back to Lukla, you can enjoy a scenic helicopter flight from the Everest region. This aerial journey provides breathtaking views of soaring Himalayan peaks, sprawling glaciers, and charming Sherpa villages—a truly unforgettable way to conclude your adventure in the Khumbu region.

Amazing guide to EBC on a 10 day Trek
31st October, 2017
In October 2017 we trekked to EBC with Ram as our guide. We met Ram the day before our trek, where he gave us all the information we required before we left for our Lukla flight at 5am the next morning. Ram ensured as a tour group we were organised to ensure we made the first flight from Kathmandu to Lukla. Attention to detail was paramount with Ram from the beginning, even advising us to sit on the Left side of the plane for the best views as we fly towards Lukla.
Once we landed in Lukla we took breakfast and as a group began to get to know each other, as for the next 10 days we became a team.
Ram consistently monitored our health throughout the trek to ensure we had the best experience along the journey, from testing spO2 levels to our diet and sleep, this assisted us all having a great trek. The continuous monitoring of us ensured symptoms of Altitude Sickness were dealt with swiftly and appropriately.
We could not have been any happier with Ram and his skills, we look forward to returning to Kathmandu to trek again with Ram in 2020 where we will complete a longer trek. Ram is amazing and highly regarded and anyone that treks with Ram will have an amazing and safe trek!!
Well done and thank you Ram!
